Seen above and to the right, Ayers Rock is actually the tip of a huge horseshoe like geological structure that runs for miles under the surface of Australia's outback. You can use a travel agent to book one of the limited flights departing at sunset. The flights are in small planes that follow a route that the Australian government has deemed "environmentally sensitive." The color change of the rock and the nearby Olgas is incredible! It's a once in a lifetime experience. It is both environmentally incorrect and dangerous to walk over this geological monument, considered sacred by indigenous people.
